Ally’s Answer

Hello Christopher!

When we look at the landscape of sports careers, we can broadly categorize them into two main areas: 1) roles directly related to the players and 2) roles connected to the business aspect of the industry.

Roles on the player's side often involve some aspect of the actual game. These could range from front office positions (player scouts, general managers, coaches) to player performance focused roles (trainers, physical therapists). There are also behind-the-scenes positions in the clubhouse, such as equipment managers, and many more!

On the flip side, business-related roles are all about fueling the growth and revenue of the broader sports industry. The industry generates income through various channels like media deals, corporate partnerships, merchandise sales, ticketing, food and beverage services, and countless others!

What this means for you, Christopher, is that if you're keen on pursuing a career in sports, there's a plethora of ways for you to dive in! As Emilia pointed out, internships and volunteer opportunities can serve as excellent starting points to discover what truly ignites your passion.

Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!

Emilia’s Answer

Hi Christopher,

choose your favorite, because you sure have a full spectrum! I'll start with asking yourself where do you see yourself?

There are 100% active jobs on the sports/athletic field, but there are also job in that same domain which are desk related/abiding. Where do you see yourself? Office job or field job? Do you dream of building campaigns? Or signing new partnership? Being the media manager for one of the major tournaments (US Open, NBA, Formula 1)? Do you favor a certain sport?

These are all great questions! And when you do narrow down your scope, you can actually start searching: volunteering jobs/internships and then build upon.

Best wishes,
Emilia

Colbe’s Answer

Hey Christopher - this sounds a little silly but i'd recommend googling all types of things (sports business, sports marketing, partnerships, etc.) and scouring the teams that you may like to watch (or know about) - ie looking on the New York Yankees staff page or

Colbe recommends the following next steps:
