Craig’s Answer

Poly Sci is great for a few things:

  1. Prepping for law school
  2. Working for the Foreign Service, State Department, an embassy, at an NGO, political action committee, etc.
  3. Running for office
  4. Working in politics (political campaign advisor, etc.)
  5. Political journalism (although getting a degree in journalism and doing a minor in Poly Sci might be better for this)

OR...

You can go a totally different way. I personally got a BA in Poly Sci and then later got an MBA and Masters in Computer Science. I currently work in IT Consulting. I found my training in Poly Sci helped me to understand the big picture of how the world works and also on how to write persuasively, and using facts, research, logic and data. That kind of skill can help you in almost any career.

Carl’s Answer

Political Science is a very important skill set that I would complement with political economy and history. I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics then I worked for a good part of my career in health financing. It is about having a solid foundation and embracing change and opportunities.

Carl recommends the following next steps:

Be curious about other countries that are out of your initial focus
Read about political leaders and understand their trajectory
