Hello Jaquan! I appreciate that you are thinking ahead. In addition to doing your best in high school classes, are their any clubs in your school such as FBLA (future business leaders of america), BPA (business professionals of america), SkillsUSA, or DECA? I suggest joining one of these, if possible.

Does your school have a Career Technical track where you can take business courses? I suggest meeting with your high school guidance counselor at this time. Also at this time, you can research colleges that offer business administration degrees where you can major in marketing.

While you are doing that you can do some of your own training, seek mentors who do marketing in their profession, and volunteer doing marketing for local nonprofits. This will expose you to marketing career to see if you like it. And, it can build some experience and extra-curricular work that will help set you apart in your college application.

I hope my answer is helpful to you. Good luck!

Aditi’s Answer

Hey! A few good first steps to take would be:
1. enroll in classes or student clubs at your school that teach business
2. look into colleges that you're interested in to see the various types of business/marketing majors offered
3. find a couple of well-reviewed marketing books you can read to understand the field and pinpoint your specific interest
4. go through the curriculum of various college classes in business to get familiar with the types of topics, and ones you are especially interested in
5. once you find the above topics, find online free courses on coursera, edx etc. where you can learn more (and also put them on your resume!)
