How can I find a reliable part-time remote job?

I'm currently working full-time in a medical office, but need to make extra income to support myself and my 2.5 year old daughter as I'm a single parent. I'm interested in remote work opportunities so I could potentially work evenings and/or weekends. I've completed 3 years of university and one semester of nursing school, but unfortunately don't have a degree. I have a strong background in healthcare as having worked in the emergency department in a hospital in the Houston Medical District amongst other jobs and I also have extensive knowledge of computer applications.

Houcine’s Answer

Dear Lauren,

It's understandable that you're seeking a reliable part-time remote job to support yourself and your daughter. Given your background in healthcare and strong knowledge of computer applications, there are several avenues you can explore:

Online Job Platforms: Websites like Indeed, FlexJobs, and Remote.co list remote job opportunities. Use relevant keywords such as "remote healthcare," "medical coding," or "healthcare administration" to narrow down your search.

Healthcare Telecommuting Companies: Some healthcare companies offer remote positions. Research and reach out to telehealth services, medical billing companies, or health insurance providers, as they may have remote job openings.

Freelance Work: Explore freelancing platforms like Upwork or Fiverr. Your healthcare background and computer skills could be valuable for tasks such as medical transcription, data entry, or virtual assistance.

Remote Customer Service: Many companies hire remote customer service representatives. Your experience in healthcare and strong computer skills make you an attractive candidate for customer support roles in healthcare-related companies.

Networking: Leverage your professional network, including former colleagues and classmates. They may have insights into remote job opportunities or can connect you with relevant contacts.

Virtual Assistant Roles: With your computer skills and healthcare background, you could consider virtual assistant positions, supporting professionals or businesses remotely.

Remember to tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight your specific skills and experiences relevant to the remote positions you're applying for. Emphasize your healthcare expertise and showcase your adaptability to remote work.

Wishing you success in finding a suitable part-time remote job that meets your needs.

Best regards,
Houcine

Thank you comment icon Houcine- I reach out to you for more insight as I'm currently struggling to have any luck with obtaining a remote job. Although I have 3 years of college experience and not a full "undergraduate degree," I've been feeling limited as to what I'm eligible to apply for. With that being said, I'm interested to hear your opinion on how I can further portray myself as being a worthy candidadte for future opportunities. As always, thank you for your time. Lauren

Terry’s Answer

I agree that establishes job websites is a good way to look. Some that would be good are: Indeed, FlexJob, Uphill, Upwork.
Definitely highlight your medical and computer skills. Places like Red Cross have Help Desks where those answering for them work remotely.
Some places will let you work remotely and on-site for training.

As stated, be careful with your personal information.

All the best!!
