Beatrix thank you for reaching out and asking your question regarding pursuing a career in the field of cybersecurity, particularly as a "white hatter." It's wonderful that you have a passion for robotics, coding, and ethical hacking.. Here are a few things that I think might help to pursue your interests:

• Begin by establishing a solid educational base in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, computer science, or a similar area could be beneficial.

• Strong coding skills are essential in cybersecurity. Consider learning coding languages such as Python, Java, C++, and others often used by hackers. Engage in coding projects to gain practical experience - the more, the better.

• Take part in networking events, conferences, and workshops related to robotics, coding, and cybersecurity. This will help you build connections in the industry, which could lead to valuable insights, mentorship, and potential opportunities.

• Consider online courses and certifications focused on cybersecurity. Platforms like Coursera, edX, and others offer courses from reputable institutions and organizations. Certifications like Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) can boost your credentials.

• Practical experience is key, so consider internships, projects, or participating in capture the flag (CTF) competitions. This hands-on experience is vital for honing the skills needed in ethical hacking.

• Stay informed about the latest developments in cybersecurity, coding, and robotics. You can do this by following industry blogs, joining forums, and subscribing to newsletters.

• Consider enrolling in ethical hacking courses or training programs. These courses offer specialized knowledge and skills needed for ethical hacking roles. EC-Council's Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) is a well-recognized certification in this field.

• Just as an artist needs a portfolio, so do you. Create a portfolio showcasing your projects, skills, and any certifications you've earned. This can be a powerful tool when applying for internships or entry-level positions.

• Seek guidance and mentorship from professionals in the cybersecurity field. They can offer valuable industry insights, share their experiences, and provide career development advice.

Always remember, cybersecurity is a dynamic field that requires continuous learning. Stay curious, actively seek opportunities, and view challenges as chances for growth.

Atul’s Answer

To take proactive steps towards a cybersecurity career, consider pursuing a major in Computer Science or Engineering to gain a solid hardware background. Look for universities or colleges that provide cybersecurity courses. Additionally, develop proficiency in computer languages commonly used in cybersecurity. You can identify these languages by examining job postings from cybersecurity firms. Strive to excel in these languages, as most employers nowadays evaluate your skills through tests that could last up to three hours. While your GPA is significant, employers are equally interested in your skills, aptitude, and knowledge relevant to their needs.

In addition to technical skills, effective communication is vital. Hone your English language skills, both written and spoken, to express ideas clearly and concisely. Companies value team players over lone wolves, so being a good communicator is crucial.

Lastly, push your boundaries by enrolling in challenging courses beyond the required curriculum and start seeking internships after your Freshman year. These internships, whether paid or unpaid, could pave the way to your success as an engineer.

To advance your career in coding or cybersecurity, it's crucial to continuously expand your skill set. Various online resources, like Codeacademy and Cybrary, can guide you in this journey. Codeacademy offers a variety of learning paths to suit your interests as a developer, directing you towards the most relevant programming languages. On the other hand, Cybrary can help you identify the cybersecurity skills you need to acquire and select the best learning path to gain more expertise. After deciding your focus area, the key to mastery is consistent practice. Enhancing your technical skills is vital to stand out among other job applicants. Moreover, maintaining an online portfolio or a website to display your projects can serve as a unique selling point.

Great question! CyberSecurity is a great field to be in as well as a very versatile and exciting one! I would recommend exploring internships in CyberSecurity also to enhance your skillset, take advantage of self learning opportunities on Youtube, Udemy, and even Guru99. I also recommend taking the Security+ certification as an entry level certification.
