Mine too! I know how you feel. I was born an Interior Designer and always knew it, found my passion very young I call design my breath because if I couldn't use all the creativity that want out of my head I couldn't breath. Enough about me. Whenever I speak to young people about success, whatever's field ,my advice is not to follow in anyone's footsteps because when you get where your going there will be a line so you have to make your own path and never give up your goal because you can do whatever you put your mind to, I did. If this is your passion you are already an Interior Designer but now you need to Polish your skills . I worked at a large department store when I was 16 so ,so ,so many years ago and I dressed all the store windows which was quite alot but I had so much fun nothing had made me happier. I got to pick and choose what colors and textures and movements of the window designs and I learned so much about how all things fit together and this is your next step as the designer your are and will become. So my advice , see the puzzle around you and know there is design in everything, and do as much design as you can in your every day life, find places where the puzzle can fit together more harmonious and see where the ideals will take you. If you have a cool idea for a chair draw it, love it ,give it a name then sell it or do an internship at a furniture store that have design staff and get comfortable sharing your design ideals with your peers and future clientele practice what you learn in what ever area of design you love so when it's your turn to do the tap dance for your place you will be ready.

I highly recommend that you consider pursuing internships with local interior designers in your area. Even spending one afternoon with them could provide a wealth of knowledge and experience. Check if your local branches of IIDA or ASID are hosting any meetings that you could participate in. Pay close attention to the kind of work they do and how their educational background aligns with their profession.

I've observed that many designers who specialize in residential interiors may not possess formal education or licensing, but they have a keen intuition and are adept at managing their business. They are responsible for acquiring and retaining their own clientele. While they may earn a substantial income, their work and earnings can be somewhat erratic.

On the other hand, commercial designers usually work under a firm or institution. They typically hold a college degree and a professional license. Their work schedule is more structured, and their income is more steady and predictable.

As a starting point, consider enrolling in some art classes while you're still in high school. Use this opportunity to network with designers and explore where your interests truly lie.
