Just last year, I was a junior with no internships or experience, but now, as a senior, I've completed four internships and gained valuable experience. Here's my advice: start by refreshing your LinkedIn profile and resume, as these are your foundation. If you find your resume or LinkedIn profile a bit sparse, consider earning certifications and working on projects. This demonstrates your proactive approach to personal development while awaiting opportunities.

Next, explore opportunities on https://www.parkerdewey.com/. This site offers micro-internships that small businesses use to find interns for short periods, like one to four weeks. Though these internships may be brief, any experience is beneficial. I also recommend considering Undergraduate Research experience, which is highly sought after in the data field and often comes with a paycheck.

Don't overlook your local area, as local internships can be a great asset (providing both income and a resume boost). Use these experiences as steppingstones to secure larger roles that interest you.

Remember, the data and technology market is extremely competitive right now. Big companies are no longer offering opportunities based solely on education. Therefore, use this summer to invest in yourself. Rather than rushing to build your skills in the fall when applications are due (a trap that 80% of students fall into), you'll be ahead of the game and able to focus on fine-tuning your execution!

Hello Rishi,

I'd like to suggest a fantastic opportunity for you - consider collaborating with organizations like the Boys and Girls Clubs. They often need volunteers to tutor and mentor students. Let them know you specialize in coding - your expertise could make a huge difference in someone's life. Additionally, reaching out to underprivileged communities or homeless shelters could present more chances to tutor. They may have students who would greatly benefit from your help. Your skills could light up their world and give them a chance for a better future.

There are several ways you can get involved in volunteering opportunities related to coding and data analysis. One option is to look for local nonprofits that might benefit from your skills. Many organizations need help with website maintenance, data analysis, or even creating new software tools. Websites like VolunteerMatch can help you find these opportunities. Another excellent way to volunteer is by contributing to open source projects. Websites like GitHub have repositories that need contributors, and you can find projects that match your interests and skill level. Additionally, you can volunteer to teach coding to others through programs like Girls Who Code, Code.org, or local community centers, which often look for volunteers to help teach coding to kids and teens. Participating in hackathons that focus on solving social issues is another great option. These events often need volunteers to help with coding and data analysis, and websites like Devpost list upcoming hackathons. Organizations like DataKind connect data scientists with social organizations to tackle challenges using data, which could be a great way to apply your data analysis skills for a good cause. Lastly, many tech companies offer summer internships, and some may even have programs specifically geared towards high school students. Check out companies that interest you and see if they have any openings. By getting involved in these opportunities, you can gain valuable experience and make a positive impact with your skills. Good luck.

Hello Rishi,

It's wonderful to hear about your interest in contributing your Coding/Data Analytics skills to a non-profit organization! Here are a few friendly suggestions on how you can go about it:

Start by identifying non-profit organizations that resonate with your personal values and interests. You'll find that many of these organizations have a need for data-related tasks, like analyzing donor information or monitoring the results of their programs.
Don't hesitate to get in touch directly with these non-profit organizations. Ask them about volunteering opportunities and offer your assistance with tasks such as data analysis, managing their database, or other data-related needs.
You might also want to explore websites such as DataKind or Statistics Without Borders. These platforms serve as a bridge between data scientists and non-profit organizations who could really use your data-related expertise.
Participating in data-related events for non-profits, like hackathons or data dives, is another great way to contribute. These events provide a platform for data scientists and non-profit organizations to collaborate on data-related projects.

Best Wishes,
JP
