As a hopeful actress or director, people always say that networking is key but how exactly do you network and what is that process like?
I am a high school senior set to graduate in the spring and attend New York University in the fall with a double major in acting and psychology.

Hi Lillie! While I can't talk specifically about acting or directing I can tell you about networks. Starting out you need two sorts of networks. The first is the set of people you work with on a regular basis. They can help you with aspects of the job you maybe aren't familiar with and you can do the same for them. The second sort of network will be likely people who are more senior or experienced than you are. They might be able to give you different advice on how to progress your career or help introduce you to other senior / experienced people who can help find you another job for instance.
Regardless of who they are and whether you are peers or whether they are more senior/experienced, be nice. People generally respond better to people that they like to be around and work with. Make sure you are offering your skills and experience to others. This is not about taking - it's a give and take "game". Finally, this is something you have to make time for. You can't get to know people unless you spend time to do that. I'm sure you will find that it's not hard and you'll be really good at it. Good luck!
