What college classes would you recommend to be a tattoo artist?

I plan on taking some art classes and business classes, but would anyone suggest anything else? While I’m in college I plan to do my apprenticeship so hopefully I’ll graduate my apprenticeship and get my bachelor degree. #Spring25

Hey Skylar! You're already on a smart path by planning to take both art and business classes since they’ll help you develop your skills and run your future tattoo business. In addition to those, consider taking anatomy or human biology classes to better understand the body you're working on, especially skin structure and muscle flow. Graphic design or digital illustration can also be really helpful for building your portfolio and working with clients. Courses in psychology or communication could help you connect with clients and understand their vision better. Balancing your apprenticeship with your degree shows real dedication, and that kind of hustle will take you far in the tattoo world. Good luck!

This is a cool question. You're on the right track with art and business classes. More specifically, I would take some classes in accounting for business, entrepreneurship, and marketing. If you have access to Design Thinking courses, you should certainly take one. It is a really cool way to solve tangible problems in business and development.

You could also take some psychology courses to understand your clients and employees better. Finally, I would suggest taking communications courses. Those are always helpful, regardless of what you do for a career. Best of luck!
