What's one thing you wish you knew before starting your freshman year that would have made the transition easier? #Spring25

I’m getting ready to start college soon and feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. I’d love to hear what helped others adjust—whether it was something academic, social, or just life-related.

Hey!

As for your question on what I wish I knew before starting my freshman year that would have made the transition easier?

1) <Life> Knowing my true passion - I say this first because I know its probably the most important part of going to college, I failed my first year of school because I was pushed to go to college with this "Brain washed" idea of its just what you got to do. When I succeeded finally in college it was because I learned it was what I wanted to do to make sure I had a better start on what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing (or at least the major part of my career, until I eventually decided to go a similar part and needed more education.)

2) <Social> Honestly, I surrounded myself with the wrong types of people my first attempt at college, people who wanted to party all day and kind of pushed me to skip classes to hang out with them or do something more fun. Now, I am not saying do not have fun, part of college is finding yourself as an adult, so you need to also make lifelong friendships and fun, but this is the first time (or possibly one of the first times) that you are expected to be treated like an adult. Find those good influences as well, find that group of friends or peers that are going to push each other to excel in your education.

3) <Academic> One thing my dad always instilled in me is "Short term pain, long term gain", its not really his fault I didn't listen to him in my 20s and I know you are going to take your life in your own special way. Just remember whatever you take from college is going to slingshot you further in life, take every day and every class as a way to improve yourself. Even if the classes have nothing to do with your dreams (looking at you Biology) know that even if you never use the subject again, you are training yourself to be a more well-rounded educated individual!...

Good luck!
