Here are curated Guidelines for Landing a Successful Cybersecurity Internship and Career:
As a junior at Coppell High School, you have amazing opportunities to dive into valuable cybersecurity internships with top companies like Lockheed Martin, Michaels Stores, 7-Eleven, Atos-North America, Citi, and Verizon. These internships offer hands-on experience in cyber defense and security engineering, laying a solid foundation for your future career. To boost your technical skills, start learning programming languages like Python or Bash. Websites like Codecademy, TryHackMe, and freeCodeCamp are great for beginners. You can also take online courses on platforms like Coursera or Cybrary to deepen your understanding of key cybersecurity topics. Get familiar with industry-standard tools like Kali Linux and Wireshark, and join Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions to sharpen your skills in a fun, competitive setting. Virtual internships on platforms like The Forage let you tackle real-world cybersecurity challenges. Earning certifications such as CompTIA ITF+ or the Google Cybersecurity Certificate will make your resume stand out and show your dedication to growing professionally. Attending hackathons and cybersecurity conferences, like BSides DFW, will expand your network and keep you up-to-date with the latest industry trends. Engaging in online communities on platforms like Discord, Reddit, and Stack Overflow is a fantastic way to stay informed and connect with others. To further boost your profile, focus on building a strong online presence. Networking on LinkedIn, showcasing your work on GitHub, and joining a cybersecurity club will set you apart.
Moreover, platforms like Devpost and DevInterships offer chances to gain experience through hackathons and internships. Internshala and Refonte AI also list cybersecurity internships like the Cyber Security Mentor Work From Home Internship at DevTown and DevSecOps & Cybersecurity Internship, where you can get hands-on experience. These resources will help you build the skills, experience, and network you need to succeed in the exciting field of cybersecurity. Good luck!

Srivas, there are Cybersecurity internships for high school students, but they can be hard to find and potentially competitive. I recommend also looking into other IT roles. This will help you build a strong base, which is great for future cybersecurity positions. Many cybersecurity practitioners consider having a solid IT foundation a prerequisite for working in the field so having that background could be very beneficial. Wishing you the best of luck in your future endeavors!

Hi Srivas,
I recommend checking out the ISC2 entry level certifications. You can view their website for training & then the exam for the final certification. Having a certification like this will definitely help show that you have a foundational understanding of cybersecurity best practices. https://www.isc2.org/certifications/cc
Best of luck!
