How should I make my classes to ensure I don't overdo it and burn myself out in the first semester?
I am an upcoming college freshman and want a balanced life with school and extracurriculars. The only way I can achieve that is if I have an efficiently planned schedule that ensures success.

1. Begin with a manageable course load. Focus on essential classes like English, Math, and Science to build your foundation. Include a fun elective like Pottery, Dance, or Filmmaking to keep things interesting.
2. Schedule your classes wisely. If you're not a morning person, avoid 8am classes. Late nights make early mornings tough!
3. Take clear notes in class and connect with classmates. Share notes and support each other during challenging times and celebrate successes together.
4. Stay true to yourself. Explore activities that interest you and prioritize your well-being. There's plenty of time to experience everything.
5. Remember, most freshmen feel the same way you do. Enjoy this time and help others feel comfortable. Start conversations with a joke, compliment, or friendly introduction. You've got this!

Hi! Smart question. First, try and add a class you know you will enjoy. Adding that in the mix with harder classes will keep you motivated. I would try a bit of a lighter schedule (4 instead of 5 classes) just to get you settled into the routine and I would limit any extracurricular activities (but keep one or two!) So you aren't spread too thin. If possible, I would try and plan out your classes where you have a day in between, or mornings off so you can actually do homework.

I suggest starting your first semester of college with 12 credit hours, which means taking 3 to 4 classes. This way, you'll have time to join fun activities outside of class and still do well in your studies. To keep a good balance between school and activities, pay attention to when your classes are scheduled.
