Where in the world do most Computer Science/ Cybersecurity Internships occur?

Anywhere in the world

Thank you comment icon Best option is to just Google; I found half a dozen in your city. Being entry level positions, internships are not remote, since they require constant supervision and direction. Edmond Momartin ☁️

Start your search with technology companies for the roles you want. Many internships begin in the summer, so timing is key to landing a great spot. If you can't find an internship right away, don't worry! Explore free resources from companies you're interested in. For instance, HP offers free courses on business, career concepts, and digital skills. Building on Rishitha’s answer, another place in the US with many tech companies and internships is Atlanta, GA. The Georgia Institute of Technology (GA TECH) is also in Atlanta and is an excellent school for technology and engineering careers.

Jovanni’s Answer

Hi Aleah, cybersecurity is a rapidly growing industry with many internships around the world. If you would like to get into the cybersecurity industry, I highly recommend that you do at home projects or join cubs within your school that will allow you to get hands on experience. This is very crucial as when you apply to internships you can have the upper hand against other potential candidates as you will already have hands on experience. Look into your area and see if there any internship opportunities or within major cities as most bigger companies have bigger companies that can provide more internship opportunities compared to more rural areas.

Elijah’s Answer

You can probably find internships anywhere in the world, but the biggest tech hubs in the US are:
San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Austin, and Los Angeles.
You'll likely find the most opportunity in those cities.

Mary Ann’s Answer

Hi Aleah,
You might check with tech companies. Most tech companies have a cybersecurity team and likely have a few internships available. One of the challenges with internships is that companies will not pay relocation for an intern. Therefore, you will need to plan to relocate yourself, find something where you live, or find an internship that is remote.

That being said, my advice is to do research on different companies that are of interest to you. Learn about what the company does, their products, what it's like to work there. And then, decide which companies you would like to target for an internship. The company's website likely has a "careers" tab and under that is likely information about internships if they offer them. Be aware, most companies interview and hire their summer internships in the fall of the previous year or first 2 months of the same calendar year. Meaning, for internships starting in May/June 2025, interviews happened in Sept/Oct 2024 or Jan/Feb 2025. That doesn't mean you can't find an internship for the summer of 2025 now. It's just harder as most internship roles are already full.

If you are seeking an internship with a company that is in a country different than the country where you are a citizen, you may need to take some extra steps to be permitted to work in that country. Also, most companies do not pay to do the paperwork to permit a non-citizen to intern in their company.

My last suggestion is to check with the job/employment office at your school. As you're asking about internships, I'm assuming you are in college. Most colleges have some kind of office or department to help students put together a resume or apply for internships or list local jobs available to students. If your school has one of this offices/departments, I recommend you stop in and have a chat to see how they can help.

Good luck.
