#Fall25? What are the best, and worst, parts of being an accountant day to day?
I'm going into college to become an accountant and I would love the perspective of someone who is already in that roll. I want to do something in accounting with numbers, but the answer to this question could help guide which niche I dive into. Thanks!

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for your question! Working in accounting can be really intellectually stimulating—you get to solve complex problems, analyze financial data, and help people and businesses make important decisions. It’s rewarding knowing that your work makes a real difference, and you often get to collaborate with smart, dedicated colleagues who challenge and support you.
On the flip side, some parts of the job can be less exciting, like repetitive administrative tasks that come up regularly. Also, technology can be a challenge at times—whether it’s learning new accounting software or dealing with system issues, it requires patience and adaptability.
Overall, if you enjoy working with numbers and want a career where you can feel useful and continuously learn, accounting is a great choice! Exploring different niches—like tax, auditing, or forensic accounting—can help you find the perfect fit for your interests.
Best of luck as you start your journey!

Best: You get to work with really smart people and learn something new every day.
Worst: The hours can be long, and it might be tough to manage your time because you often have to wait for clients to provide information or for team members to review your work.
