What are some recommendations for volunteer experience in relation to my major in Nursing?

Looking for volunteer opportunities that can help me gain healthcare experience but also grow in knowledge so I can improve overall in my major now and be ready for my future nursing career.

Hi Savannah!

With a future career in nursing, I would definitely recommend looking at volunteering at a senior center, community service center, homeless service organization or other social service program. The need is so high and your skills are so needed. Plus it will help you develop your skills while also bringing a human-centered element to the work. It will be great to add to your resume as well.

With there being so many avenues on what industry to work in, you would benefit from volunteering in a few different industries:

-Mental/behavioral health - in college I volunteered in the physical Ed department so we played frisbee golf & other outdoor games with patients. It was great exposure to be around patient but have a great time as well.
-Senior Living Communities have ample opportunities to read to residents, play bingo, and see how nurses/CPA’s interact & serve
-Major hospitals & physician clinics have a lot of great ways to volunteer as well.

Best of luck!
