Maurizio OTTO’s Answer

If you want to study music in college, it depends on what you actually want to do. Music is a very broad field.

If you’re interested in production or recording, look for majors like Music Production, Audio Engineering, or Recording Arts. These programs focus more on working in studios, using software, and understanding how music is made today.

If you’re more into performing or composing, then majors like Performance, Composition, or Music Education might be a better fit.

What matters more than the name of the major is what the program actually offers. Look for schools that give you hands-on experience, access to studios, and opportunities to work on real projects with other students.

Also, keep in mind that college is just one path. Many people learn a lot on their own by practicing, collaborating, and building real projects. The best approach is usually a mix of both.

As for schools, there are many good options. Instead of chasing “top schools,” focus on programs that fit your goals and give you practical experience.
