electrical engineering volunteering?

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, along with experience in quality assurance and system certification. I recently moved to Canada from Sri Lanka and am eager to begin my career in electrical engineering here.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to find volunteer opportunities in the electrical engineering field, as I am looking to gain local experience and strengthen my chances of securing a role in this industry.

Begin by reaching out to Engineers Canada, Engineers Without Borders Canada, IEEE, and local organizations in telecom, utilities, substations, power generation, and industrial control systems. These connections can offer great networking and early industry exposure. Check out utilities like Hydro One and Alectra Utilities, and join events hosted by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) and university career centers to make valuable connections.

Boost your profile by honing skills in technical documentation, compliance, and testing. Learn about Canadian electrical codes and CSA standards, and actively participate in engineering events. Set up informational interviews with professionals to expand your network and knowledge.
