Hi Maite! Even though you're only 11 and can't work legally yet, there are still lots of fun things you can do. How about walking dogs for your family or trusted neighbors? You could also help with yard work like mowing lawns or raking leaves. With the warm weather, washing cars could be a great option too. These activities can help you earn some money and learn new skills. Talk with your parents to make a safe plan and get their support. Decide how much you want to charge for your services, and have fun making flyers to share with others. You've got this, Maite!

Dana’s Answer

Hello Maite! Great initiative on your part!

Here are a few ideas for making some money.
1. Lawn care (even if you dont have a lawn mower, a rake & trash bags to collect leaves for neighbors), assisting w/an independent lawn care company

2. Odd jobs for neighbors, collecting yard trash, walking pets (after getting to know them), getting groceries, taking the trash & pail to the road for elderly neighbors, any jobs for elderly neighbors that you can manage

3. Pet washing/cleaning (after getting to know them)

Discuss with your mom so you have permission & she knows who you are working with.

Best of luck!

Radhika’s Answer

Hi Maite - it is really wonderful to see you want to help your Mom. Always make sure your mama is onboard and agrees with whatever you decide to explore and do. You can get involved in community events near you to connect with people who have some requirements where you can contribute and earn some money. It might be tutoring with english or math, creating small art projects for younger kids, lawn moving or keeping the yard clean. You're just 11, study well, help in house chores and take care of younger siblings, if any. That will take a lot of burden off Mom's plate.

Alisson’s Answer

Hi Maite, it's honorable having a kid looking for ways to help your family. Keep up pursuing it. There are so many possibilities at your age even when you are not able to work legally. Let's suppose you like the AI and technology area, I'll suggest to start watching videos on youtube on how to do digital marketing, how to make small companies not only starting to show on google searching but posting things related on social media and be able to go viral or at least to be found in the internet. We always have a uncle, neighbor, and parent who have a service company and needs help on that matter. They don't know how to post, bump things on google, Instagram etc...and you can learn about key words, tendencies, smart postings, and etc. You can offer help and charge per hour having the flexibility to work on your free time, learning something that you definably can choose as career in the future. There is online courses like Coursera, Udemy that can help you to learn quick about digital marketing.
However, the most important thing is before trying to bring money home, remember to help your mom at home! Start doing things at home, even though they are boring, this is what make your mom really tired bcz this work never ends. Doing your bed, dishes, cleaning the house, bathroom, watch your young brother and sister will make a difference on your home when you do it consistently.

You've got some awesome ideas for earning a bit more to help your family! Have you thought about asking around at your church or school for any chances to lend a hand? Also, if there are families nearby, some parents might need help with their kids. Maybe you could babysit or organize fun outdoor activities for them. Enjoy the process! With your energy and determination, you're sure to go far. Keep it up!

Afsheen’s Answer

It's wonderful that you want to help your mom. Not many kids your age think about supporting their family, and that shows how special you are.

Even though there might be limits on jobs you can do at 11, you can still find ways to help. You could earn some money by helping neighbors, pet sitting, doing yard work, tutoring younger kids, helping with technology, or selling something you've made.

Remember, you don't have to fix everything right now. One of the best things you can do is invest in yourself. The skills you learn now—whether in school, communication, technology, social media, AI, or anything else you like—will help you make a bigger impact in the future.

You're already showing responsibility and kindness. Keep learning and growing, and remember that helping your family isn't just about money. Being supportive, doing well in school, and building skills are also great ways to help.

Ankit’s Answer

Hi Maite,

We're in an exciting time where things like location and age matter less. Check out the AI revolution and see how, even at 11, you can create great income streams from home in something you love.

Feel free to ask if you need any help.

Ankit recommends the following next steps:

Watch videos about GenAI like Claude, Chatgpt etc
Start playing around with something. You dont need any prior experience in any field
Pick up a topic that you like
Work around it and start monetizing through things like videos on youtube etc.

Sanjit Kumar’s Answer

At 11, the best path is small, legal, safe ways to earn money, not a formal job—most workplaces cannot hire someone your age, and labor rules usually limit work for minors. You can still help your mom by doing things like mowing lawns, washing cars, pet sitting, dog walking with an adult nearby, helping neighbors with yard cleanup, tutoring younger kids, or running errands with a parent. If you’re trying to help with money at home, ask your mom about starting a simple chore-for-cash system or doing extra tasks for relatives and trusted neighbors. A good practical next move is to make a short list of 5 things you can do well, then ask adults you trust if they need help and what they would pay. You can also start learning a skill now—like basic computer skills, coding, babysitting basics, or handiwork—so when you’re older, you can get paid more and more easily.
If you tell me your age, country, and what you’re good at, I can suggest realistic ideas that fit your area.

It's great that you care about this! At 11, there aren't many jobs you can do, but you might find local chances like delivering newspapers or babysitting. Keep an eye out for these if you want to earn some extra money. In the meantime, focus on doing well in school, listen to your parents, and help out with chores at home. This will make a big difference!

Rachana’s Answer

Hello Maite,

At 11, most places can’t legally hire you for a formal job, but you can still earn a bit by doing small, safe tasks like tutoring younger kids, pet sitting/dog walking, yard work, or helping neighbors with chores (always with your mom’s permission).
Talk with your mom about what’s allowed where you live and what she thinks is safe; together you can pick a few small “mini‑jobs” and plan how much you want to save or contribute.

Sarah’s Answer

Hi Maite! So sweet of you to want to help your mom out. You’re trying to do something kind and grown-up here. At 11 in most states, you usually can’t get a regular job yet because the general minimum age for employment is 14. My recommendation: start with trusted neighbors, relatives, church members, or family friends and ask your mom or another trusted adult to help you offer babysitting, pet sitting, watering plants, or light yard cleanup. That is the safest and most realistic path at your age.

And while you can't work legally at most jobs because of your age, you can maybe find some opportunities in your community with your friends, neighbors and family. Maybe you can assist with household chores, dog walk/pet care and/or yard care. Please work with your mom to make sure that you can safely find opportunities to support the family.

Aparna’s Answer

Hi Maite! At just 11 years old, it's amazing that you're so aware and eager to help your mom. That's a big achievement, and you should be proud of yourself!

While some jobs aren't possible for you yet, there are great options like washing cars or walking trusted neighbors' dogs. Remember, focusing on your studies and getting good grades will help you be ready for a career when you're older, and that will mean a lot to your mom, too.

Helping with chores at home and taking care of siblings can also give your mom more time to find ways to pay the rent. Keep being thoughtful and kind—you're doing great!

Nikole’s Answer

Hi Maite, it is so kind and loving that you want to help your mama, and that says so much about the beautiful heart you have. Even if you are not old enough for a regular job yet, there are still small ways you may be able to help, like washing cars, helping a neighbor with yard work, helping with a yard sale, or babysitting for family or someone your parent trusts. You can also help by being responsible at home, listening, and doing your best in school, because those things matter too. Just make sure anything you do is safe and with your mama’s permission, but your willingness to help already brings so much joy and shows how caring you are.

Maite - I really admire you! Every job is a good job and don't ever forget that. What do you like to do? Do you like to garden? Do you like to cook? Maybe ask your friends, their parents and neighbors what they are up to this summer. They may need your help!

Be open to anything so long as you feel safe and comfortable. My first job was helping neighbors with their garden and yard work!

Hi Maite, it's great that you want to help your family! Start by doing chores at home to get some practice. You can also offer to mow lawns, pet sit, wash cars, babysit, or help older neighbors with tasks like laundry. Make sure your mom agrees and learn how to do these chores safely. Always have a phone with you and tell your family where you'll be and when you'll return, so they know you're safe. Good luck!

Melinda’s Answer

Hello Maite..

I admire your desire to be a contributing member of your family. I can tell you love your Mom very much. You are not old enough to legally work at a company, restaurant or store, this is the right time to create your own business. At your age, I had a babysitting business. My Mom and Dad refused the money I tried to give them and instead told me to save it.

In your case, you could think of a service related business. If you live in a neighborhood with a lot of older people, you could ask if they need someone to put out the garbage bins on trash day. My cousin did that and his customers were very happy. You could try things that you've probably heard already like mowing lawns, selling cold drinks at sports events, etc.

I'd say the BEST JOB you have right now is being the best student you can be. Parents don't stress so much when we are trying our best in school. This is a great way to support your family. Since it is Summer now, do more around the house, wash dishes, clean your room, sweep thh floors, etc. while Mom has to work.

Gauri’s Answer

At 11, you usually can’t get a regular job yet, but you may be able to do safe, family-friendly tasks like helping neighbors with small chores, pet sitting with an adult nearby, yard work, folding flyers, or helping with a parent’s side hustle. The best next move is to ask a parent, guardian, teacher, or school counselor to help you find something safe and allowed where you live, because child labor rules are strict. If you want to help mama right now, focus on things that save money too: keep track of spending, help around the house, and see if there are local community programs that can assist with rent or food. If you tell me your country or city, I can suggest age-appropriate ideas that fit the rules there.
