Hi Vivian,

I agree with Sijoys answer.
I think really focus on prepping for the prerequisite courses to get into a nursing program. You definitely have math, English, biology, anatomy and physiology, among other basic requirements. It’s important to figure out what school you’re going to to see what exactly is required and if you can take those at the local community college while you’re still completing your high school courses.
If you can learn other nursing related skills like phlebotomy and getting EKGs certification that would definitely help you as well.

Wishing you a successful future.

Hi Vivian. I would see if your high school offers a CNA program. This is a great way to get your foot in the door in healthcare. Also, if you can take dual enrollment courses, take some of the common prerequisite courses for nursing school. For example, statistics, psychology, developmental psychology, chemistry(with lab), microbiology (with lab).

Hi Vivian, you already have some great answers to your question. One thing I'd like to add is consider getting summer internships at hospitals or nursing facilities. You'll really get a feel of what nursing can be and this can help you decide what kind of nursing specialty you want to work in. Hope this helps! <3

Hi Vivian,
It's fantastic that you are already planning for nursing school while in 10th grade. Thinking ahead like this will really help you when the time comes. Nursing is a rewarding career, and there are things you can do now to get ready both academically and personally.

Here are some helpful tips to get started:

1. Focus on Science Classes: Subjects like Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy will give you a great start. If your school has health science electives, try to take them.

2. Improve Math & English: Math is useful for calculating dosages, and English helps with communication skills, both are important in nursing.

3. Learn Basic Healthcare Skills: Taking CPR or First Aid courses and volunteering at a hospital or clinic can give you early experience with patient care.

4. Build Soft Skills: Skills like empathy, teamwork, and communication are as important as technical knowledge. Join clubs or activities that develop leadership and teamwork.

5. Explore Online Resources: Websites like Coursera or Khan Academy offer beginner courses in medical terminology, health basics, and even introductory nursing concepts.

6. Connect with Nurses: If you can, talk to local nurses or nursing students to learn about their experiences. This will give you a real sense of what the job is like.

7. Stay Curious: Keep up with healthcare trends, watch documentaries, or follow nursing forums to stay inspired and informed.

My Personal Advice: Start small- maybe take a CPR course or volunteer in a healthcare setting. These experiences will not only prepare you academically but also confirm your interest in nursing.

You are asking great questions at the perfect time, and this curiosity will help you feel more confident and clear as you work toward nursing school.

Wishing you lots of success and encouragement as you take these first steps.
