I am taking German in college so that I can be more marketable to German automobile and motorcycle companies. How would I find engineering positions at a company in Germany?

Michael’s Answer

In my previous position, I recruited in Hamburg, Germany. Usually the best places to find available jobs is on german job boards such as www.xing.de and www.stepstone.de. They will have the most local listings.

Also, check out the jobs page of the companies you are most interested in. For example, https://www.audi.com/en/career.html

You many face issues with Visa's if you do not carry an EU or German passport. That being said, a lot fo german companies have major plants and offices here in the U.S. so check out where those locations might be.

Michael recommends the following next steps:

Research jobs pages of the companies you are most interested in.

Bastian’s Answer

I would mirror Michael´s feedback - www.xing.de is the German LinkedIn and stepstone is one of many job advertising platforms. Note that the German government as well has a job advertising platform - www.arbeitsagentur.de (can be switched to English language in the upper right).

However, I think the best is just to browse through the websites of the manufacturers (Audi, BMW, Daimler/Mercedes, Opel, Porsche, VW etc.) ... note that there are some foreign brands with operation in Germany as well - e. g. FORD´s production facilities for some European models are in Cologne, Tesla is building a factory close to Berlin and Hyundai has some design center near Frankfurt, if I´m not mistaken.

Depending what your engineering focus is, you may not only want to consider the car manufacturers themselves, but related suppliers, such as Bosh, Recaro, Websato etc.
