Kamyar’s Answer

It depends on some schools out there that train you to be a plumber. A solid 4 or 5 years is necessary.
Thank you comment icon Hi Kamyar, do you mind adding some more information to your answer? What about the schools differs that might affect how much time is required? Alexandra Carpenter, Admin

Carol’s Answer

Hi Joshua

While I have not recruited specifically for plumbers, I have found that the best way to find out about any career is to go online and ask.

It appears that to gain enough knowledge to go out on your own as a plumber you will need a high school diploma and attend a vocational school or community college. Then you will need to enter an apprentice program for at least 5 years and pass the required certifications. I have to think that the amount of time it takes to know everything varies for everyone. Some things are harder for some people to pick up than others.

I also read online where someone said that in order to be a great plumber, you must be quick to make decisions and solve the problem for your client. Additionally, one must be eager to learn especially considering that technology is advancing the equipment plumbers use.

On a daily basisPlumbers Review blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. They Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances such as dishwashers or water heaters, or fixtures such as sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools.

Some may also direct helpers engaged in pipe cutting, preassembly, or installation of plumbing systems or components.

In a normal work day, another thing that Plumbers do is they weld small pipes or special piping, using specialized techniques, equipment, or materials, such as computer-assisted welding or microchip fabrication.

There more is information out there that will tell you what people do in certain careers, other sites that might describe a typical day in the role, jobsites with openings and job descriptions as well as salary ranges for the positions, etc. YouTube may have videos explaining the same. If you look at multiple sites, look for consistencies in what they say. This should help you feel more comfortable that the information you are reading is accurate.

I used Google and typed in your question. Here is what I found so far to get you started.

Hope this helps. Feel free to reach back out.

Carol
