Technology is simply the application of our knowledge to solve a problem.
The problems can be generic like transporting people and goods from one place to another or communicating with people far away. These problems are solved through technology, we invented cars/motorbikes to solve the transportation problem. For communication we invented telephones and mobile phones.
The technologies are improved continuously to provide simpler and faster solutions. We went from sending handwritten letters to telegrams and finally mobile phones. The wheel was invented which was followed by horse carts and finally cars. Even right now, we see a transition from petroleum based cars to newer electric cars which are faster and cause less pollution.

Your Question is very generalized . however to make you more open to technologies, phone is the best example. The hardware is built with technologies in electronics, the software is built on computer programming languages, the call works with the cellular networking technologies and many more. Technologies is a terminology used to refer the working model of the technical concepts in any field.

At a high level, Information technology describes technologies that powers or enables the storage, processing and information flow within locally and internationally. Anything involved with computers, software, networks, intranets, Web sites, servers, databases and telecommunications falls under the IT umbrella.
