Machining

I'm wanting to do the machining trade at Job Corps and just wanted to know if it's a good trade for people who like working with their hands, don't mind getting dirty, and are good with details. #career #education

Robert’s Answer

Machining in America is a dying trade. Job markets are tight. I always refer people that ask me to other trades. HVAC. PLUMBING. ELECTRICIAN. MECHANIC. WELDER. Most of these have apprenticeships that give hands on training while working. If you decide to do machining anyways learn both cnc and manual. You should also give extra attention to cad and what ever cam software they are teaching

Joan’s Answer

If machining is something you think you will enjoy as a lifelong career, go for it! You have to like what you’re doing or days can be long. Perhaps you can research or shadow someone who currently works in this field to get a better understanding of what a typical day might look like. Research: yearly income, educational requirements, and best location for needed machinists. This type of job is now in high demand again because it is no longer saturated with applicants. Good luck. You can do this!!
