Francesca’s Answer

I think NYC has a lot of great advertising opportunities, but you can really find a job in advertising in most major cities: NYC, LA, Chicago, Atlanta, Philly. My biggest recommendation for someone starting out in advertising is to do an internship program first. I found that I learned a lot from the internship program, more so than I learned in my classes.

There are many major hub cities for Advertising. NYC, LA and Chicago are traditionally the cities that house the largest advertising agency networks. Detroit is a hub for Automotive Advertising. There are many boutique digital and creative advertising agencies in Austin, Denver, Miami and Portland. Just like any industry, the key is to get an understanding of what type of advertising interests you, what types of brands you would like to work on and what city is right for you. Do tons of research and you'll start to .narrow your list on where you want to be.

I think starting out you could work anywhere in this field to gain experience however in the long run I would say New York City or Los Angeles.

I'm not an expert, but my impression is that large cities have most of the large media firms (e.g., NY, LA, Chicago, Boston)

Cheryl’s Answer

I would highly recommend NYC, LA or Chicago. These are the cities with top talent and a lot of opportunities. As a native New Yorker, I prefer NYC agencies as they typically are more mature, have a variety of clients so the agency lights aren't kept on by one client, and you'll get to work with the best-of-the-best. Other cities have smaller offices in other cities but I can say from my experience, NYC was the best city to learn all aspects of the business.
