Hi Charles,

I hope you are safe and doing well. For culinary coop, Indeed is a good platform to look into. I have provided a link for the same below. I am not sure if you are looking for opportunities in Oakville only or you are open to Toronto as well. You will find most of the coop requirements in Toronto downtown as there are more restaurants and hence more vacancies. George Brown College also has a program called Co-op – Hospitality & Culinary Arts that you might be interested in. I have attached a link for that as well. You can give it a shot by applying through links I attached.

I wish you all the best in your search!

Cheers,
Nashra

Hi Charles,

I'm not a chef but have worked with interns and enjoy cooking international cuisine.

All start by suggesting how to look for opportunities then give a few thoughts on career development.

There are lots of major job posting sites that would potentially advertise co-ops in your area. Glassdoor and job monster are sites many employers use for advertising positions. Usually local governments and school systems also have job websites. Try asking adults you know which employment sites they use. Don't forget to ask your friends and family to assist you in looking for an opportunity. Also be open to related opportunities that though not glamorous still contribute to your experience. Working in your school cafeteria would probably be a good example of a useful non-glamorous position.

Get a good job and navigating a career effectively requires planning. You need think about what to do in order to develop the skills you'll need along the way.

So you're thinking you can become an excellent or world class chef? I agree! Your challenge is to use the opportunities available to you get you there.

Once you find your first opportunity you'll need to demonstrate your potential and skills. So start now by look for opportunities to develop cooking skills and demonstrating your potential. Volunteering, cooking and banking classes a few suggestions.

As you progress in your career keep assessing your skill set in reference to career goals. Don't be afraid to switch jobs if they no longer are helping you achieve your career goals.

Maybe some day you'll have your cooking show.

Best,

Michael
