It depends on the company and job. In my current job I can have nail polish. But nails must be shorter and polish has to be kept, not chipping. Other jobs only allowed mild colors and even some yet no polish. Look to the company policy.

These type of rules usually depend on your company's policy. Some hospitals and practices allow nail polish, others may have specific guidelines about what colors and lengths are appropriate for their company, and others may have a no nail polish rule in place. There is not a standard across all companies and each place you work at will have its own unique guidelines.

To my knowledge,

They have to keep their nails short, but I think they can paint it because surgeons wear gloves anyway.
