Great advice from Aimee! I would add that choosing a college or university is only part of the equation in pursuing a marketing career. It's important to learn the basics and I think even more important to get experience - either through summer jobs, internships or other work opportunities. You may want to ask potential colleges how they help marketing students get internships or scout out business or non-profit organizations in the town or city where you're interested in attending. That said though, colleges will likely have on-campus opportunities where you can work such as writing for the school newspaper, doing marketing for organizations or other relevant experience.

Many great colleges have strong marketing programs, what else do you want or need in a college/university? Do you want a large university with a variety of clubs, sports and majors? Maybe you prefer a smaller campus with an equally strong academic focus. There are undergraduate only schools where professors seek out interested students to assist them with research.

I recommend you make a list of what you must have at a university then locate schools that 1) have the Marketing major you want and 2) have at least three items from your 'must have' list. Make a comparison grid to see which school best fits your wants and needs AND then try to visit the school in person.
