Alexandra’s Answer

Working in Finance / Accounting would allow you to work with various departments and understand how a company works. You might think of advancement in terms of grade and salary but there is more to it than the status.
There are many jobs in Finance and you can acquire a number of transferrable skills that also allow to work in different departments. Lateral moves are an option as well as moving up in the hierarchy.
You could also end up having your own business or work in a consultancy firm.

Sami’s Answer

Finance is broad field. A graduate in Finance can start working as a junior analyst, accountant. As the years advances, he can get promoted to higher positions where responsibilities can grow and deeper analysis of the broader firm is needed. With experience, good performance, and added learnings, a Finance graduate can eventually reach the level of CFO ( chief financial officer ) where he can manage the company's finances.

Adam’s Answer

Specifically in terms of investment banking, the advancement potential and timeline is relatively linear. If you continue to excel in your role, you can stay within the same bank and make the jump from analyst to associate to VP every couple years. As Alexandra mentioned, a role in finance can lead to many different doors opening for you, and you can leverage experience in investment banking to jump to an industry, another bank, or a private equity firm. There is a lot of potential to advance both in responsibility and compensation when making a jump like this.
