What is the most important thing to maintain in college?

I am asking this question because I do not want to mess up in college #college #college-major #college-admissions #college-bound #college-recruiting

Thank you comment icon Hey RonDasha! I'm currently a sophomore in college, and I would say that one of the more important things to manage is your time. You will have a lot of freedom to do what you want to do, and it is easy to skip classes or procrastinate. Make sure to keep yourself on track and keep on top of your work! Albert

I absolutely agree with the above comment. Balance and time management will keep you focused and allow you to not only enjoy your experience at college but perform well. Take part in clubs and organizations on campus. Sign up for intramural sports to meet people. Take advantage of all the opportunities college has to offer - it's not just about academics. Try and find an internship or a job at the school newspaper. Find a leadership role in an organization. Experience is the most important thing....along with balance and time management skills. You will do great. Have a positive attitude going in! The world is your oyster! Enjoy every minute of it and take advantage of the college experience! My best, Christy

I agree with the comments on balance but would also add maintaining your integrity. This is a critical and foundational trait that can define you as a person, student and professional.

You will be presented with both positive and negative opportunities throughout your college career and in life. Remain firm in good integrity as this can easily crumble around you and discredit you.

If you wouldn't want educators or employers (or even family) to see it online or in a newspaper headline, don't do it!

This might be a controversial response, but the relationships. As long as you get sufficient grades, I wouldn't worry about getting the best grades out there. It's very fulfilling to meet new people and deepen bonds, but it's also important for your career as well. Yes, there are specific internships and positions where grade is a factor for getting in, but outside of those instances, having a wider network of friends and acquaintances will serve you much better. I've even been told by a college admin before it was possible to get too high grades for specific fields of work, lol.

You will need to focus on stress and time management. In order to manage stress you have to manage your time wisely. You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).
