What is the first step in becoming a fashion stylist?

I'm currently enrolled in high school in San Francisco and I have deep interest / passion for fashion but currently I have no idea where to begin or where to start. So I'm asking you guys to share some of your fashion experiences!

Being a fashion stylist is a great career to work towards! As you may already be aware, it's a very competitive industry. You don't necessarily need to attend further school to pursue the career, it's more about creativity, art, and connections. and branding that'll bring your main sucess. However, if you do plan on going to a university, it wouldn't hurt to attend one which is known for arts and design. Starting your exposure early is key. Attend shows and get great exposure. Whether they be small-scale or big-name fashion shows. Watch them online to keep up with style trends and attend in-person to gather connections. It's an industry very reliant on connections. Make sure to brand yourself and create an image. Get creative, maybe repurpose some clothing; ie: cut-and-sews, distressing, printing on vintage garments, dye/bleach work, etc.

I am glad to hear that you have interest on fashion.
Firstly, you have to acquire more understanding on different fashion designer, their design characteristics, etc. Due to the pandemic, a lot of fashion house has changes their SS or FW fashions from live shows to online. There are plenty of these fashion shows online. It will be beneficial to you to watch more designs.
On the other hand, there are different commentaries on the collection of the famous designers. You can ready more and analyze & understand the good and bad of different designs.
There are fashion related courses in many famous design school. You can find the entry criteria and explore any opportunities to study in these schools.
Also, you can explore any intern opportunities to work as an intern of famous fashion house. It can help to understand the industry better and establish the network.
