Ruby’s Answer

As with any administrative assistant position, it's best to always stay ahead of the game. Just be sure to learn as much as you can and make yourself as versatile as possible. That's the key to everything really. Make yourself an integral part of the team/organization by familiarizing yourself with other job functions that may proof beneficial to you down the road. Always think ahead.

Good luck!

Medical Administration changes from office to office. Some offices have you functioning like a medical assistant. The best Medical Administrative Assistants I’ve ever worked with were eager to learn in the beginning and learned the ins/outs of their tasks very well (scheduling patients, insurance verification, sending out referrals and prior authorizations, taking payments, and were well versed in HIPPA laws) but most importantly they were great team players and helped with other tasks as needed. Medical offices tend to get a bit “clique-y” especially with large numbers of staff - don’t be one of those people! Before you start, ask about what your training will entail! How will you be trained, by who, for how long?? Training is the most important part!

A staff that values training will set you up for success!!!!

As per the hardest part…probably the steep learning curve in the beginning.. including the tasks I specifically mentioned. Plus, rude patients, coordinating with other medical clinics…. Dealing with insurance companies is probably #1 - especially until you get the hang of it.
