How often do people need interior design services ?

Hi i'm Madi a junior in high school. I would like to open up my own interior design business but worry about how much interior designers and actually need. Also how many services are available.

There is high demand for interior design services, both for residential clients and for commercial. Working for a commercial design firm could be a nice way to start to learn the industry and space, but I know multiple people who have their own residential interior design businesses and there's lots of demand for their services.

Hi Madi! Congratulations on thinking about your future, and it sounds like you have some really admirable ambitions. I can answer part of your question. Interior designers are needed in a number of different types of projects, mainly broken down into two big categories: residential and commercial.

In the residential category, there are a bunch of different types of projects, for example: individual people's homes, staging homes for selling (when someone sells their house, sometimes they pay to have it staged to be decorated for the selling process), communal spaces in residential buildings (like lobbies or other places in apartment buildings).

Commercial projects have a ton of applications as well: decorating office buildings, hotels, restaurants, shops, and other public spaces. Basically anywhere you've ever been that has a piece of furniture could be an opportunity for an interior design service.
