Elijah’s Answer

I think there is a certain mechanical aptitude that can not be taught, my recommendation to anyone who thinks they might like to be a technician is to get some basic tools and a repair manual for your car, or buy a project car. Start by tinkering on your own, see if it comes easy to you, and more importantly, make sure you enjoy the work. I've seen quite a few people come out of trade schools with a lot of debt who end up not really enjoying being a technician.

Jose’s Answer

You should enjoy building things. Not just wrenching on cars, but in general the most successful techs I have known live and breathe it. They do it for fun on the weekends even if they are not getting paid for it.
