Think about how you and your siblings compete for your parents attention but still get along and love each other...same with countries...they can compete in some areas while cooperate in others...coopettion. Fact is the history of the world is based on the nation states working together in common interests (trade) while competing economically where they dont have them...not at all uncommon

They keep dividing in order to keep their share of power, if all the countries united then all the power in the world will be with a selected few.
Like Kanye west side, "No one man should have all that power". With different countries, we have more views and diversity, and the chances of survival of the society(world ) increase
