Hi Daniel,
1. For time management, I suggest starting with a to-do list for the day. What do you need to accomplish for the day, if you finish all of that what else would you want to add if you have time. Set blocks of time aside to focus on what you want to accomplish, and let that be your focus. Try this daily and end the day with what did you get done and prepare for the next day.
2. Internships - What are you interested in, What companies, go to their website look to see if they have internships posted. Work with your guidance counselor. Also try volunteering at non-profit and community organizations (this also looks great on a resume)
3. Again work with your guidance counselor - if there are specific companies that interest you, reach out to them and ask first rather than just sending a resume/cl blindly.
Good Luck!

To Do List
Meet with Guidance Counselor

Natalie’s Answer

Hi Daniel,

Great questions! I have answered them for you below:

1) What is the best way to manage my time in high school?
-What helped me the most was to-do lists and recognizing after school activities. I would at times have to choose between activities to ensure I had enough time in my day to get my school work completed.
2) What are some good internships I should look into in high school?
-It does all depend on what you have interest in. I would recommend an internship with a non profit or volunteer organization. This looks great on your resume. If you are interested in business or customer service, I would recommend a fortune 500 company if there is one in your area. They have great internship programs that will give you all the necessary skills for college and beyond.
3) Who should I send my resume and cover letter to?
-While still in high school, I would recommend reaching out to your guidance counselor or English teacher.

Good Luck!

Hello Daniel,
1. In regards to managing your time, you can make a list of all the items that need to get done throughout the week and make a schedule for yourself and complete the most important items first and go on from that starting point. Do not overwhelm yourself and try to get everything done at once or procrastinate. You should find a balance that works for you where you are doing some work every day.
2. Looking into internships depends on what you want to do in your career and if you are not sure, you can try to set up shadow sessions with areas you are interested in to learn what their day to day looks like in their certain careers. This will helps build your network so when it is time for an internship, you will have a head start with your relationships.
3. Resumes/Cover letters are typically attached to a link provided by the company website. If one is not available, I would recommend researching the company's hiring team and send them an email asking who would be the best person to get a hold of to submit your documents.
