Jane S.’s Answer

College is not necessary for being an electrician. Experience and practical training ARE. That being said, a college education IS necessary for opening up the world to you. The world of history, the arts, philosophy, science, and math - it expands your vision. And, if taught correctly, it will help you express yourself better and more effectively. You can also do this studying after a few years as an electrician. Just keep in mind that it’s a very big world, and education will be helpful to you in sorting it all out.

Hello Joshua,

To become an electrician college is not required, however could be helpful if you want to become an electrical engineer. Most electrical apprenticeship programs are available to join at the age of 18. These programs allow you to learn and earn at the same time. You will get real world training and exposure to what an electrician does on a daily basis. These careers can be very lucrative and can also lead you to becoming an entrepreneur and starting your own business.
Good luck to you.

Aisha’s Answer

Certificate programs at electrician trade schools usually take anywhere from four months to one year. If you choose to attend an associate program at a community college, the degree will take about two years to complete. After you complete your training, you'll need to complete a 3-5 year apprenticeship program.
