To become a thriving dental hygienist, always keep learning. While continuing education is necessary for maintaining your license, don't just settle for the bare minimum. Keep pushing forward. I highly recommend joining a professional organization, such as the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, and aim for more than just a 2-year hygiene program. Pursue the complete 4-year BS program, and then continue to grow. By the way, the IAOMT can also help you earn CEUs.
There is a high demand for dental hygienists, particularly in the Washington, DC area, and you're likely to secure a job right away. Don't stress about competing with others in the field. If you're dedicated to excellence, you'll stand out from the crowd and showcase your unique abilities – there's no competition for that level of commitment.
