Eric’s Answer

JayJay,

From my experience, I first started in construction working my way up to becoming a GC, a Self-Performing GC. That simply means that I had boots on the ground actually working not babysitting like most GC do now. From there I went on to get my degree in Architecture. I believe this is vitally important to understanding how buildings and structures are actually built. Without know this, how then can you accurately design a structure that will truly work: this is fundamental.

Your next steps should be in getting your feet wet in the construction field and get exposed to how building go together from the ground up. Then and only then will you have the basic fundamentals for a successful career in Architecture.

Great questions.

Thanks,

It's inspiring to learn about your enthusiasm for architecture and your curiosity about the metaverse. Here's a guide to help you navigate a career in architecture and delve into its intersection with the metaverse:

1. **Learning**: Begin by investigating architecture courses at universities or colleges. Look for programs that have been accredited by reputable bodies such as the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Consider pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) or a similar degree. Remember that most architecture programs require a foundation in mathematics and physics.

2. **Practical Experience**: While studying architecture, aim to secure internships or co-op roles with architectural firms. Hands-on experience is priceless in this profession.

3. **Focus Areas**: As you advance in your architectural education, think about specializing in fields related to the metaverse, like virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) in architecture. Some programs offer specialized courses or focus areas in these fields.

4. **Tech Skills**: Get comfortable with digital tools frequently used in architecture, such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and 3D modeling software. These skills are crucial for both traditional and metaverse-centric architectural work.

5. **Metaverse Discovery**: To delve into the metaverse side of architecture, start by understanding virtual worlds, 3D modeling for virtual settings, and VR/AR technologies. Try experimenting with platforms like Unity or Unreal Engine to create virtual architectural designs.

6. **Building Connections**: Establish relationships with professionals in the architecture and metaverse industries through networking events, conferences, and online groups. Participate in architecture or VR/AR forums to stay current with industry trends.

7. **Further Studies**: If your fascination with the metaverse persists, you might think about pursuing postgraduate studies in architecture or related fields, focusing on emerging technologies and digital architecture.

8. **Personal Endeavors**: Develop personal architectural projects in the metaverse to create a portfolio that highlights your abilities and creativity in this field. These projects can make you more noticeable to potential employers or partners.

9. **Stay Updated**: Keep track of advancements in the metaverse, virtual reality, and augmented reality. These technologies are changing fast, and staying up-to-date will be key in merging architecture with the virtual realm.

10. **Teamwork**: Seek opportunities to work with professionals or organizations engaged in metaverse-related architectural projects. This can provide practical experience and broaden your network.

Keep in mind that the metaverse is a dynamic and evolving realm, and architects capable of connecting the physical and virtual worlds will likely be highly sought after. Merging your love for architecture with expertise in the metaverse could open doors to innovative and rewarding career paths.

I would also suggest trying to find your local AIA / EDP (Emerging Design Professionals) chapter and get involved in some networking events.
