What are differences between Painting and Drawing?

Painting uses paint to create a picture. Usually, this kind of art is painted on canvases.
Drawing typically uses pencils, charcoal, or oil pastels.

Painting is like a dance of colors on a canvas, paper, or wood, where wet or dry pigments come alive through tools like brushes, knives, or sponges. On the other hand, drawing is the art of crafting lines and shapes on a surface, typically paper, using dry tools like pencils, pens, or charcoal.
Each of these art forms, painting and drawing, can be used to craft either realistic or abstract images. However, they each have their unique flair and advantages. So glad to hear from you! I take it by asking these questions you are interested in art whether as a hobby or a potential career path? Either way, that's great to hear as art is an amazing creative outlet that you can use however YOU see it whenever you feel that creativity the most.
To answer your question, painting usually involves paintbrushes, an artist's canvas, and paint. One thing to know about paints is there are different types such as oil paints, which you should know when working with oil paint you will most likely need to prime your canvas with something called an oil-friendly gesso to help prevent the paint from soaking through and/or the canvas material being eaten away. You ONLY need to do this if your canvas is either unprimed or linen canvas - just read your label before purchasing. Another paint option is watercolor in which you need water to thin out the paint solution for it to be workable, acrylic, and gouache, which is a much more vibrant color pigment than watercolor paints. As you can tell from this explanation of the items used when painting, it's a lot of wet materials.
In contrast to painting for drawing, this method of art uses primarily dry materials. These dry materials include a sketchbook, graphite pencils, colored pencils, charcoal pencils/sticks, pastel pencils, and crayons. I will also add drawing may include some other materials that are considered wet too such as pens, markers, or inks because some artists like to do mixed media sketches or artworks, but that all depends on the artist's preferences.
