+1 for Baylor, most research universities have programs for local high school students to intern and learn.
Many biology and biomedical opportunities are going to be in-person in a laboratory or care environment like a hospital. I would encourage you to try to find an in-person internship if you can, as there's a lot you learn just by working with people directly. That being said, there are some fields like biostatistics, bioinformatics, and health economics that are mostly done at a keyboard and might have remote options.

Hi Sarah, For starters, there are some local things you can try. Call a nearby large hospital or two and ask to speak with the head of their biomedical engineering department. Explain who you are and what you’re looking to do. Then see they know of any local biomedical companies that you could approach. Or maybe see if the hospital itself has an internship program, perhaps in their research division. Also, you can contact University of Houston’s Biomedical Engineering Staff. You might begin with their Academic Advisor, though you’re not a student there at this time. If they can’t help, ask them if they might know where to contact next. And don’t forget to Google “online internships for biomedical engineering”. Best to you with your career!
