One aspect of an anesthesiologist’s job that makes it exciting is that you have the potential to work on many different types of patient’s cases. Over the course of the same day, you may find yourself in preoperative rooms, operating rooms, recovery rooms, emergency departments, intensive care units, labor and delivery wards, or diagnostic testing suites, the American Society of Anesthesiologists reported. Working in the practice of general anesthesiology is a great choice for individuals who don’t want to do the same thing day and day out because there is so much variety in the job. After your work day you’ll drive home and enjoy a free evening. You typically won’t have any phone calls regarding the day’s patients. Once a patient leaves the Anesthesia Care Unit without complications, it’s unlikely there will be ongoing any issues for the anesthesiologist. For these reasons, anesthesiology is often considered a “quality lifestyle” medical specialty. Your evenings and weekends are usually free unless you are on call, which makes anesthesiology appealing.

In order to become an anesthesiologist, students undergo a long period of study and training. On average, it takes 12 to 15 years to become an anesthesiologist. Becoming an anesthesiologist is a long process that requires a significant amount of education and training. The hard work can be worth it though, as anesthesiologists play a crucial role in the healthcare system and are some of the highest-paid medical professionals.

Anesthesiologists monitor and control the patient's vital life functions, including heart rate and rhythm, breathing, blood pressure, body temperature and body fluid balance! They also control the patient's pain and level of consciousness to make conditions ideal for a safe and successful surgery! Overall, this is basically what a day in the life of an anesthesiologist looks like!

Its never a dull moment. During long cases, you essentially "marry" your patient's physiology while intricately managing and anticipating responses to the trespasses of surgery. There is definitely an art to providing comprehensive perioperative care that is safe and effective.
You are a member of a team consisting of surgeons, RNs, trainees, etc. You work closely together. Communication between team members is ongoing.
It is rewarding and intense.
Your patient puts a lot of trust in you.
Oftentimes you rarely sit down in a day as you could be overseeing the care of 3 patients at the same time- if working with residents and or nurse anesthetists who are "sitting" the case.
One can specialize in various areas of medicine and become experts in one particular area such as cardiac, OB, vascular, pain, regional anesthesia, pediatric anesthesthesa etc...or remain as a generalist.
At the end of the day, you can relax and know that you came to completion on the days work.
