Hi Haley. I must warn you, becoming and being a doctor is very difficult and a long grind. You have to be near the top of your class in college to have a reasonable chance of getting into medical school and the 4 years of medical school are a real test of determination and dedication to becoming a doctor. This is followed by at least 3 years of post-graduate training with long hours of work and intense learning to get certified in any medical specialty and in the case of orthopedic surgery, it is 5 years or more. This means at least 9 years of study and training after college. The lifestyle after all your training is complete is still not necessarily easy as it requires long hours and sometimes being available 24 hours a day. All that being said, as an internal medicine doctor, I would do it all over again as I cannot think of a job as rewarding and fulfilling as the practice of medicine. If you have a love of science and a sense of being drawn to a helping profession then by all means go for it! On the other hand, if your motivation is to make a lot of money, I suggest you look at other alternatives.
I agree w Scott. It will take even more years, but if you are motivated (severely motivated) then become a radiologist. Takes alot of dedication and schooling, anatomy in many modalities, hands on interventional, fluoroscopy etc, so many different opportunities.

According to ZipRecruiter, the average annual pay for an Orthopedic Surgeon in the U.S. is $329,222 a year. When researching salaries of specific roles, also remember that the salary can differ based on location.

Hi Haley, as an Orthopaedic surgeon, I'll like to tell you that Orthopaedic surgeons make good money.
All over the world, among other specialties of surgery, Orthopaedic surgeons belong to the highly paid class of surgical specialties.
However a lot depends on your definition of "good money".
A lot also depends on where you work, your subspecialty in orthopaedics and the class of patients you attend to.
For medicine and surgery generally, it is clear that there are other better paying professions that will give far better satisfaction.
So, again, I'll say it all depends on your definition of "good money".
Finally, I'll like to bring to your notice that most doctors all over the world are not satisfied with their pay, considering the time and effort the profession demands. What keeps us going is our love for what we do.
So if money is your primary drive for being a surgeon, you may get disappointed and frustrated along the way. However nothing says money cannot be your secondary drive. (Smiles)
