Robert Gustafson

All I am is one voice, so I can only speak from my own experience which may, or may not, be relevant to your needs. I have been writing in one niche or another since I was fifteen years old, and am now sixty-seven and retired. Other than a stint as a ghostwriter, I have always needed a day job to make ends meet. Most of my writing has been on-spec, which means that I don't get paid unless someone buys the rights and either publishes the novel, produces the film-script/stage-play, or includes one of my songs on their CD.

I have had success in all of the above genres, but they have all been produced by independent artists and companies. The experiences have been exciting, enjoyable, and every now and then, have brought in some money. All I hope for you, is that you be honest with your writing—and to do that, you will have to actually write.
