Do volunteer time at a veterinary clinic and you will become familiarized and begin acquiring the hands on experience necessary in working with animals and understanding the medical jargons involved in the learning process. You will also be able to get aquainted with the behaviours of the different breeds of cats and dogs in the veterinary clinics as well.

Hello!
As a veterinarian, I hope I can answer this question to your satisfaction.
After college, you will need to graduate from an accredited Veterinary school. I also recommend working in a veterinary clinic before you go to veterinary school, so that you are more familiar with the veterinary medical scene, but it also looks great on your vet school application. After graduation from vet school, you may want to work in a few different types of practices so that you know what you do and don't want to do in your own practice. after about 4-5 years, then I would start to look for practices that are being sold and see of you can work in the practice for a bit before you decide to purchase it. Of course, this is not always an option, so just make sure that you have a really good financial advisor to help you decide if the practice that you purchase can maintain and sustain growth. I have been a vet for 15 years, and there are a LOT of options for careers!
