Richard’s Answer

You have to have the grades to pass the initial screening. Basically the grades get your foot in the door.

However there will many many applicants that have perfect scores. Extra curricular activities and essay will distinguish you from the other applicants with similar credentials

Rachel’s Answer

Grades are far, far more important than the essays. Especially in Texas where grades can gain you automatic admission and the essay is just an exercise.

Michaela’s Answer

Hi Allie, it might depend on what type of school you choose to apply for or what major you're interested in. It is best to be well rounded in both categories since they highlight different strengths. Good grades show you're dedicated, disciplined, a quick learner, etc. While a good essay can give the college insight into who you are, how you think, what's important to you, etc.
