Hello Hannah,
The best ways to stay on track are:
1. Meet with your advisor at the beginning of each semester. Ask if you are on track to meet every requirement to graduate and adjust your schedule if you need to.
2. Go to class and pay attention.
3. Do your homework and study outside of class.
4. Go to tutoring if you need to.

Good luck with college!

Hi Hannah,

Give yourself some time to settle in, i.e. move into res before classes start, get to know some of the other students in res, attend any orientation sessions that are being offered and explore campus so you know where the buildings are.

Meet with your academic advisor if that hasn't happened yet and clarify whatever needs to be clarified. Find out if there are any assessments to place into certain classes. If you have seminars or lab classes, you may have to sign up for certain time slots (or maybe you'll just get assigned to a session). Make sure you don't have any timetable clashes. Read the syllabus for each class early and get the required textbooks or literature.

Make a time-table and block out times for classes, homework, study times, exercise and "free time". Ideally, you would read the next chapter before it is taught in class to be prepared. Make sure you attend classes and take notes in each class (even if you get hand-outs). Recollection is better if you take hand-written notes. Work through your notes and the hand-outs after class.

Once classes start, you can find a group of people to form a study group (3-4 per group works well). The most effective way to learn something is to explain it to someone else. You can discuss the theories, misconceptions and solutions to class problems. If you meet every week, you'll be forced to do the work every week. Stick to the plan and stay organized and your exams will be so much easier. If you have any problems, e.g. mental health, exam anxiety etc, visit the student counseling center early.

I hope this helps for now! All the best!
