Sneha’s Answer

Hey Kiley! It’s completely normal to wonder how you’ll remember everything from your classes, especially in a field as detailed as speech and language pathology. It is likely that you won’t remember every fact perfectly, but you’ll build a strong foundation and learn how to find the information you need when it matters. What really sticks is what you apply, practice, and connect to real-life situations. As a sophomore, you still have time to absorb, revisit, and build on what you’ve learned. Your love for music, nature, and helping others shows you already have the passion and curiosity that will carry you through your career with confidence. Good luck!
Thank you comment icon Sneha, I love your answer! Some facts and techniques will come back to you many years later when you suddenly need them. Also you can take courses or keep up to date on research in a particular area and search online if you need/want to; continuing ed is mandatory. We need you in our field! Katie Schwartz, CCC-SLP

Kerry’s Answer

You don't. It's just not possible with a scope as big as ours. That's why we do continuing education and learn how to do research, so we can find answers when we need them. However, the biggest skill that will help you in the field is your ability to connect with your clients. You need to be able to build that rapport and make them feel comfortable, otherwise nothing will get done in therapy. Our profession relies on our clients being vulnerable, and we need to make them feel safe.
