Thanks for your question, Ali. I wish that I could say that I was as focused when I was your age but I was more interested in soccer and other sports at the time. To that end, I would encourage you to take your time before deciding what career you would like to pursue. It will be a number of years before you have to decide what degree you want to study and I would advise that you use that time to consider other areas that might be of interest to you. When I was 13, I wanted to get involved with horses for example. That focus did not last too long... Anyway, you have plenty of time on your side to consider whether the legal profession is right for you.
In terms of inspiration to become a lawyer, this happened over time and not until after I had completed my primary degree. I was always interested in the legal arena (and helping people) but I was also interested in banking and commerce. I was able to combine all these by working in an in-house environment but that took time and patience to get to where I am and I needed to take a number of intermediate steps before I got there. If you remain as focused on a career in law in a number of years, I would like to wish you the very best but please take your time to explore other options before you commit. You have plenty of time to make the right decision for you.
