Does it take more than 4 years of college to get the job you want?

I heard that 4 years of college is not enough for every job to be performed so if this is true, how many more years need for its requirement? #college #career

Hey Ayden,

As stated by Josh and Isabel the answer is dependent on you field of interest. As an example a 4 year undergraduate in Biology likely wont get you a Career in the field, where as a degree in nursing (which can be only 2 years in some institutions) likely will. The more specialized something is that you want to do, likely the longer schooling will be. Another big factor is the job market itself and your willingness to move. I know several teachers who did their 4 years and then took them 2-3 to get full time positions because they wanted to stay in town yet another got her full time 1 month out since she moved out of the province (state since you're American).

The best suggestion I can come up with would be to do the research on the career you want, check for job postings of that profession (this will tell you what the companies are actually looking for), and then make your decision.

Hi Isabel,

Not all jobs require more than 4 years of college. There are many professions in which a Bachelor's degree is sufficient but keep in mind there are some professions that require additional certifications and those certifications may require you to obtain more credits than those obtained while obtaining a Bachelor's degree. My suggestion is to research the profession you are interested in and understand the requirements that the jobs in that profession generally require.

A Bachelor's Degree and education plan really varies depending on the type of career you are looking for. Something to keep in mind when considering college and career paths is that most fields encourage "continuing education"for professionals of all levels. This can take the form of conferences, certificates, seminars and etc. Hope this is helpful!
