How do you obtain a lactation certificate if you're going to school for Speech Language Hearing Pathology? #Spring25

Is it something to acquire while working in the clinical setting or do you go through a specific program?

Hello, Olivia !

A Lactation Certification is something to get after training and competency verification in breastfeeding and human lactation support, so you'd have to enroll in a program to learn this field and then will be able to be certified. You can contact the Center for Breastfeeding for information about where to take the Lactation Counselor Training Course. I left the link to the website for you below. You can also do a search for more information on the internet.

It isn't a clinical certification, more like a counseling and support type of work. I believe nurses do go for this certification, but it's not connected to or involved in speech and hearing pathology.
